Whitney Houston and Dana Bash

Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born to a musical family on the 9th of August, 1963 at Newark New Jersey the daughter of gospel superstar Cissy Houston (nee Emily Lee Drinkard) and John Russell Houston Jr. and the cousin of singer Dionne Warwick. Her first singing gig was in the choir of her church The New Hope Baptist Church in Newark when she was a child and at 15, she had begun singing backing vocals professionally alongside the mother of her on Chaka Khans 1978 hit Im Every Woman. After that, she began to join the backing vocals of Lou Rawls, Jermaine, as well as her mother. The singer began her career as a featured vocalist for the New York-based funk band Material as well.
